SummerNight Downtown Art Walk 2010


This Friday, June 18th, and 6:00 pm the City of Auburn, the Auburn Arts Association, the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, and the Auburn Downtown Merchants Association will host the 4th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk in downtown Auburn. Be sure to bring out family and friends for a great time while shopping, dining, and enjoying the talents of our local artists and musicians. Activities include art projects for children, door prizes, a puppet show, and even a special appearance by Aubie! This is a wonderful FREE event you don't want to miss!

Clean Sweep!

Looking for a bargain this weekend? Come on out to the Junior League of Lee County's Clean Sweep Rummage Sale this Saturday, May 1st, beginning at 6 am. Items for sale will include women's, men's, and children's clothing, housewares, china, appliances, electronics, furniture, accessories, and much more! All proceeds from the sale will go to benefit the children of Lee County through art and literacy programs sponsored by the Junior League of Lee County. The sale will take place at the former Johnson's Gallery building at 205 South 10th Street. Admission is $5 for early bird entry from 6-7 am and free after 7 am.

It's a Girl!


We are excited to announce the birth of Hannah Dalton Monk! In case you were wondering, that's number 4 for Michael and Kelly! Hannah was born on April 13th at 2:32 am and weighed 6lbs 9oz and was 20" long. She is such a beautiful baby girl and both momma and baby are happy and healthy. March of Dimes Bake Sale


Gambro, a global medical technology company, is helping support the March of Dimes this Spring with a bake sale this Friday in their lobby located at 1101 Jeter Avenue in Opelika. The March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization geared towards the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. All bake sale items will be only $1, so stop by in support of this wonderful cause!

Miracle Field Opening Day!


Come on out in support of the East Alabama Miracle Field this Sunday, March 28th, at 2:00 pm for the first game of the season! The Miracle Field is a project funded by the Opelika Lions Club, and is not only a baseball field, but an entire environment for the special needs children and ball players of East Alabama. The Miracle League is now accepting application for the Spring 2010 season, and all supporters are invited to come out. The League meets each Sunday at 2:00 pm, weather permitting, at the Billy Hitchock Miracle Field located at the West Ridge Baseball Complex Field #8 at 1600 Covington Avenue in Opelika. Pancakes Anyone?

Bring your apetite and the whole family out for a delicious pancake breakfast this Saturday, March 27, beginning at 6:00 am hosted by the Opelika Lions Club. Each pancake meal is only $5.00 and all proceeds go to benefit the programs sponsored by the Opelika Lions throughout the year, such as The Miracle Field and the Alabama Lions Sight Programs to name a few. This event will take place at Opelika Middle School on Denson Drive. Come out for a wonderful breakfast for a great cause.

Winter Constellation Class

Bring the family to enjoy an evening under the stars at the Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest this Friday, February 12th, at 7:00 pm. Jennifer Lolley of the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve will show you the winter constellations and explore their myths and legends, including Orion the Hunter, Canis-Major Big dog and Canis-Minor Little Dog, The Pleiades-Seven Sisters, and many more! Be sure to dress warm, bring a flash light, and come ready to have a wonderful time!

Rain date is set for Saturday, February 13th, at 7:00 pm.


The Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest is located on Moore's Mill. Go one mile past the new CVS Pharmacy and look for the sign on the left.


Admission is $2 for memebers and $3 for non-members and all proceeds will go towards the Haiti relief efforts.

Meal to Heal

Wanting to do your part to help the relief efforts in Haiti? Here's your chance! A group of Auburn students are teaming up with Pannie George's, a local restaurant, and the American Red Cross to host a home-cooked meal to help all those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Members will be around the Auburn University campus selling tickets beginning January 21, or you can pick yours up online at www.leeredcross.org. Tickets are $5.00 each and the event will be held at the Auburn Student Center ballroom February 1 beginning at 5:00pm. Dinner will be held from 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, and 8-9pm. Come on out and support this great cause. War Eagle!

2010 Republican Gubernatorial Forum

Come on out to the Opelika Performing Arts Center at Opelika High School this coming Thursday for the 2010 Republican Gubernatorial Forum from 6:30-8:30 pm. State representative ALGOP Chairman Mike Hubbard moderate the event, and Lee County Republican Chairman Dr. Rod Herring will serve as the MC. A straw ballot will be held at the end of the meeting for all ticket holders and the results will be shared with the media.

Tickets for this event are free of charge and may be picked up at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, Opeila Chamber of Commerce, Auburn Network, and Herring Spine & Rehab, Inc.

Kansas City Barbeque Judging Class

Enjoy barbeque? Why not become a certified barbeque judge? Don't miss this unique event hosted by the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center this Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 9 am to 5 pm. Throughout the course, you will learn how to objectively and subjectively evaluate barbeque for competitions and events and meet other barbeque enthusiasts. The cost for the 1 day course is $65 for KCBS members and $95 for non-members.

The Auburn Hotel and Conference Center is offering a special group rate in newly renovated rooms for all Kansas City Barbeque Society event attendees of $85 per night for Friday, January 15, and Saturday, January 16, 2010. The group rate includes 1 king bed or double bed accommodations and complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Ariccia.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Celebration


Take part in a piece of history this Saturday, January 9th, in Mobile, AL. The 9th will mark the park's 45th anniversary of being open to the public, with over 13 million visitors since 1965. The park features the 680 foot USS ALABAMA, also known as the "Mighty A", and the USS DRUM, another WWII veteran with 12 Battle Stars. Come and take a self-guided tour onto the deck of this massive ship or take a look inside a WWII submarine. Tickets for adults and children 12 and up are $12/each, tickets for children 6-12 are $6/each, and all children under 6 are admitted free. The park is located just off Interstate 10 on exits 27 or 30. You don't want to miss this!
