Auburn: 2nd Best Place to live in the US

Recently, we discovered that our little hometown of Auburn, Alabama was named the "2nd Best Place to Live" according to a release by US News on June 8, 2009. The article includes the top 10 cities, and Auburn placed second, after Albuquerque, New Mexico. As proud members of the Auburn community, we love everything Auburn has to offer, from the beautiful Chewacla State Park, to the sea of orange and blue fans that come through Auburn University each Saturday in the fall. The city truly is a place to call home. Whether you are born and raised here, or just discovering Auburn for the first time, it is a large town with a very small town feel. Auburn offers the convience of a large city with the Tiger Town shopping center and Colonial Mall, and also keeps a small town feel with family friendly parks and a cozy downtown with festivals and events year round.
To find out more about Auburn, Alabama or other cities on the list, visit http://www.usnews.com/listings/best-places-to-live/2.

Truly a team effort...

We are proud to announce that Michael Allen Homes was awarded the Grand Prize for the 2009 Lee County Tour of Homes! The home at White Oaks came together beautifully and everyone who stepped inside the home could see how our hard work had payed off. In the last few days before the tour, with the home still not completed, our contractors pulled together as a team and created a gorgeous home. In addition, our interior designer, Stacey Jordan, did a magnificent job staging the home with furniture and pops of color sure to please our guests. Each visitor who stepped through the front door was wowed by the handsome dark wood floors and lofty ceilings creating an inviting atmosphere from the beginning. Other key features include a state of the art audio visual system, luxurious outdoor patio complete with a LCD television featured above the opulent stone fireplace, expansive master bath complete with shower body sprayers, and bedrooms throughout the house featuring a wonderful view of the charming back yard.

We would like to thank each vendor that participated in creating this amazing home and for contributing to our success in being awarded the grand prize. This is a time to celebrate!

Have my cake and eat it too...

As much as I love the beach, the sun, and everything that vacations have to offer, you can never avoid that load of work waiting for you as soon as you step off that plane. I have been busy out on work sites getting ready for the Tour of Homes that I have written so much about, and in the office taking care of invoices and the never ending emails. But, I have to love it!

I would have worked through the night, but yesterday was my beautiful wife's birthday, which is always a time to celebrate. So, I managed to pack it up and head to the house to be with her and the kids on this special day. I guess you could say I can have my cake and eat it too....

Happy to be home!

I recently returned home from a well deserved vacation with my family and we had a great time together in paradise! The kids enjoyed snorkling and swimming in the ocean and we all made memories that will last a lifetime. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the islands gave us the vacation of our lives. Luckily, the kids managed to not get too sunburned, and we all made it home safe and sound.
However, now that we are back home in Auburn, Alabama, its time to hit the ground running. With a race against the clock, we are finishing up the last minute items in the White Oaks home and are gearing up to impress the judges in the Lee County Tour of Homes 2009. Its so exciting to see all of our hard work come together in these final days. Be sure to check us out at http://www.michaelallenhomes.com and please comment with any questions regarding our projects or the Tour of Homes!

Learning Step...

A few weeks ago Michael Allen Homes welcomed the newest member to our team, Laney Payne. Laney will be taking over Sarah's place as our office manager now that Sarah has graduated from Auburn University (warrrrr eagle!) and is pursuing her career in interior design. We all wish her the best and Laney has some large shoes to fill!

Yesterday, our past project manager, Dallas Bunkley, showed Laney all of our past and current homes. Laney asked question after question, and it proved to be a very educational afternoon for her. As an architecture major, Laney hopes to learn as much as possible in the field of construction during her time with us in order to help produce better and more efficient home designs in her future career.

The afternoon proved to be a success and a learning step that Laney greatly appreciated and allowed her to better understand our company as Michael Allen Homes.

Cayman Islands

This week, I am taking the summer vacation of a lifetime with my family in the Cayman Islands. I am so excited to finally have my toes in the sand, snorkle in the crystal clear water, and make some memories with my wife and kids. There is nothing like a perfect summer vacation!

After leaving paradise, however, its only a matter of time before I will hit the ground running gearing up for the 2009 Tour of Homes yet again. There is nothing like blue ribbons to complete my summer spent beneath the blue sky and in the beautiful blue water...
